Nov 2026 The Twenty-One Days That Made India
By Josy Joseph
This book needed more time to cook. The choice to focus on the three weeks before independence feels largely arbitrary. The chapters are organised in a very aimless way. Felt more like a half finished draft of a book.

Sep 2026 How the Quantum Computer Revolution Will Change Everything
By Michio Kaku
Overhyped the potential of quantum computers by a lot. Did not provide any insight into what a quantum computer actually is. Good read if you just want a soft introduction to quantum computers and the possibilities they might unlock.

Jul 2026 Five Partitions and the Making of Modern Asia
By Sam Dalrymple
One of the best books I’ve read this year and in general on the history of the subcontinent. Thoroughly researched, coherently articulated, often told from the perspectives of actual people who lived through these events.

Jun 2026 Online Buyers, Sellers and Gig Workers in South Asia
By Vandana Vasudevan
Lovely read. Explores the gig economy from the perspectives of the various stakeholders - shop keepers, delivery workers, the customer, the platform. It really exposes the nuance and variety of experiences through use of interviews.

Jun 2026 By Dr Liz Murray
The author is both a doctor and also someone who has painful periods. Her ability to write from the vantage point of both a doctor and a patient really sets this book apart. Although it’s written for a female audience, I think men could definitely read this to better understand the lived experiences of the women in their lives.

May 2026 The Agents of Ishq Anthology
By Paromita Vohra
Lovely compilation of queer experiences in India from people of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, age groups, and genders.

May 2026 By Andrzej Sapkowski, Danusia Stok
Pretty damn sexist and degrading of women even for the time period the author wrote this in. This really shows how much the material had to be adapted for the games and TV show to make it palatable to a modern audience.

May 2026 Inside the Asian empire of fraud that preys on the world
By Snigdha Poonam
Fantastic piece of journalism. The author has really put in the time and even put her own safety on the line at times to get to the bottom of this story. This book managed to show how scamming emerges from the everyday violence of capitalism itself, but it did so without letting the people who engage in it off the hook for their choices.

May 2026 The Science of Indian Cooking
By Krish Ashok
Cooking is definitely an art. But for those of us with a formulaic or scientific bent of mind, this book helps you find your footing with science and leaves you in a better place to receive the wisdom and intuition from the artists in your family.

May 2026 The Caste System in Tamil Nadu
By Kolappa Pillay Kanakasabhapathi Pillay
A good introduction to the history of caste in TN. To be taken as a snapshot in time rather than a guide to caste in the present day.

Apr 2026 Independent India’s Development Odyssey
By Arvind Subramanian, Devesh Kapur, Vagesh Rai Goud
This book is a monumental achievement in literature about the Indian economy. It guides the reader through decades of economic history since Independence. Written in approachable prose for a non-technical audience such as myself. There are some gaps in the analysis and places where I felt like the authors could have taken stronger stances. It’s likely these are not oversights, but deliberate choices by the authors which I respect.

Feb 2026 By Tim Berners-Lee
My main takeaway was that keeping web technologies free for the common good took a lot of intention and effort. I am also intrigued to learn more about the SOLID protocol that the author is working on now.

Oct 2025 By Esmé Weijun Wang
The way the author shares lived experiences while grappling with larger philosophical questions around schizophrenia is truly praiseworthy.

Oct 2025 By Arundhati Roy
Never have I felt closer to the raw and unmitigated emotions of a character than I have with Rahel. It was an interesting experience reading this after Roy’s memoir, knowing how much of this was based on her actual life.

Oct 2025 By Arundhati Roy
I am not one to usually enjoy memoirs and autobiographies, but I’m glad I picked this one up. Love the way the author writes. I started reading The God of Small Things as soon as I was done with this.

Sep 2025 By Matt Haig
A book that felt like a warm consoling hug. The core idea being to live in the present, practice gratitude, and know that your life matters, no matter how small your world may seem.

Sep 2025 Gut: The Inside Story of Our Body's Most Underrated Organ
By Giulia Enders
Good place to start for anyone facing issues with their gut health. Packed full of fascinating facts about the digestive system and how our gut health affects the rest of our body including our mind.

Sep 2025 Astrophysics for People in a Hurry
By Neil deGrasse Tyson
Tyson was undoubtedly one of the best science communicators I had come across, but I learnt that he is also a known abuser who has evaded accountability for sexual harm. His contributions to science have come at the cost of the safety and presence of several women in STEM.
